Hold Fast to Dreams
2025 Spring Exhibition

Hold Fast to Dreams was created to honor not only the guests of the Unframed Arts Collective but also the very origins of our community. Nearly two years ago, when we first began our programming, our inaugural workshop centered around the theme of dreams—what they are, what it means to dream, and what it means to hold on to those dreams. Inspired by Langston Hughes' poem "Hold Fast to Dreams", we invited our guests to draw or paint what dreams meant to them. We hoped for open expression, for emotions to flow freely onto canvas—and that’s exactly what happened. Our guests demonstrated what it means to create in the face of adversity, to express themselves in the midst of hardship. While many of us cannot fully grasp the reality of their experiences, that workshop gave us a powerful, visual reminder of the deep human need for self-expression. Through their art, our guests taught us the true meaning of holding fast to dreams.
Hold Fast to Dreams marked a meaningful milestone for the Unframed Arts Collective as our first-ever exhibition. From March 26–29, we collaborated with The Children’s Art Carnival, an arts nonprofit in Harlem, to install a vibrant, multi-medium showcase of 98 works by artists navigating housing insecurity. We were honored to feature 8 artists whose powerful stories and creative visions anchored the show. Over four days, we welcomed around 70 visitors into the space, creating an environment for dialogue, connection, and celebration. Thanks to both ticket and artwork sales, we raised $2,800—all going directly to the artists. We sold 17 artworks, which contributed not just to artist income, but to the recognition and celebration of their creative labor. This show reaffirmed the power of visible storytelling in the arts, and we’re committed to continuing this work with care and intention.
